From 2009 to 2014, he was city councilor for Community Policies and Immigration for the City of Prato. During that term he also served as secretary of ACTE, the Association of European Textile Communities. He was chairman of ANCI's Immigration Commission for five years (replacing Mayor Cenni), as well as a member of the Unaccompanied Foreign Minors Committee at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies. In October 2011 he was appointed political adviser to the then Minister of Cultural Heritage.
He has been a Member of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels since September 8, 2014, first full, then alternate. In 2014 he was elected city councilor at the City of Prato.
In 2018 he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies. As a member of parliament, he was a member of the Permanent Commission I (Constitutional Affairs, Interior, Presidency of the Council) and the Parliamentary Committee for monitoring the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, supervising the activities of Europol, and monitoring and supervising immigration. Since May 2019 he has been a member of the Standing Committee on Defense. In June 2021 he was elected secretary of the Presidency of the Chamber of Deputies.
On October 31, 2022, he received the post of Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
He is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
