Brando Benifei

Brando Benifei is an Italian politician of the Democratic Party. A graduate in Law from the University of Bologna, with periods of training at the London School of Economics and ISPI in Milan, he took his first steps in politics in left-wing youth movements from 2002, rising to positions of responsibility in the European arena in the following years. He was first elected to the European Parliament in 2014, being reappointed in 2019 and 2024: he currently leads the Italian PD delegation in the S&D group. During his term of office, he served initially in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and later in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee; since 2020 he has participated in the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age and was the main rapporteur for the AI Act, Europe's first organic regulation on the subject.

He is committed to multiple policy fronts, including the rights of people with disabilities, civil rights advocacy, combating child poverty, and strengthening democratic guarantees, especially in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In 2024, he was honored with the MEP of the Mandate award by The Parliament Magazine for his dedication to policies on employment and artificial intelligence.

He is currently Chair of the Delegation for EU-US Parliamentary Relations and a member of the International Trade and Constitutional Affairs Committees, as well as a leading figure in the European dialogue on digital regulation.
