Speaker - Biography

A Member of the European Parliament for the Democratic Party since 2014, currently serving his third term, he focuses on European policies related to innovation, digital regulation, and international trade.

He currently serves as Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the United States (D-US), a member of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), as well as a substitute member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI). He is also a member of the parliamentary delegations for relations with Brazil and Mercosur, issues of particular importance for international trade.

He served as a co-rapporteur for the AI Act, the first European regulation on artificial intelligence, and in 2024 he received the “MEP of the Mandate” award from The Parliament Magazine for his contribution to European policies on employment and technological innovation.
